Payments and the Machine: Building the Backbone of an AI-driven Economy

Date: Tuesday, September 29
Time: 4:00 PM - 4:30 PM
Location: ES2-19

The ground beneath payments is shifting fast. AI is accelerating the pace of transactions, while stablecoins, tokenised deposits and digital currencies pile on new rails and more complex flows. Each payment type brings its own settlement logic, risk profile and operational demands, and the complexity is compounding faster than legacy systems can absorb it.

Too often, banks respond by standing up parallel processes for fiat and digital rails, duplicating effort and embedding inefficiency where there should be one coherent operating model. It is one problem and needs to be managed as such. Banks still running fragmented, siloed infrastructure face a hard truth: the tools that served the last era will not carry them through the next.

This session confronts the problem head-on. As rails multiply and flows grow more intricate, how do banks modernise their payments capability fast enough to keep pace, manage risk and run fiat and digital as a single, unified problem in an AI-driven economy?
